Fun Bob's SpacePlay Hard, Live Long April 06 Anatomy LabI had anatomy lab all day on Saturday, April 5th. It was super cool! We did a complete dissection of the chest cavity. We started by peeling back the skin kind of like filleting a fish to exposure the pectoralis major muscles which we cut off the sternum and folded them out, same thing for the minor muscle. Then came the bone saw. Awesome! We cut through all the ribs down each side and across the top & bottom so we could open up the entire chest. Then out came the lungs, the heart which we fully dissected and we explored all kinds of fun stuff in the chest cavity. The complexity of the human body is fascinating. I could go on for hours, but I'll keep it brief for this posting. April 01 A Good DayI was out on the evening walk with my dog when we ran across a Labrador that had escaped. Unfortunately our new friend Jade was near a busy street so we corralled her and got her home. It really wasn't hard to corral her since like all Labs she was ecstatic to have new friends especially once you read her tag and knew her name. I would call that a Good Day. February 17 Triple MarksIt was a gorgeous day today with a lot of sun! I took my 5 1/2 year old Labrador, Sackett down to Marymoor dog park and worked him on double marks, holds and triple marks. He sits next to me and I throw bumpers out for him to retrieve. I throw one out to the left and then second to the right or some other crazy combination. He is not allowed to get them until I release him with "get it". He should retrieve them in order from last to first. He has doubles down, but is still challenged by triples. He keeps forgetting the middle one. The other thing I worked on was having Sackett sit and stay while I move about 30 yards away before throwing the bumper. He stays at the original position until I release him to get the bumper. The entire time he is in a hold, whether it is by my side or at a distance, Sackett is like a coiled spring. He is so excited to retrieve that his muscles are quivering. When I release him it is like pulling the trigger! He takes off at full speed! January 15 Praline Pecan CrunchPrep Time: 10 min

Here come the recipesSeveral people have asked me for recipes for some of the treats I prepared around the holidays. Instead of emailing these around I will just create a recipe category and post them as blog entries. Expect the first batch tonight as I eat dinner I'll upload them. November 25 Bald EaglesI was at a beach park in Bellevue the other day walking back up to the car when a bald eagle flew right above me, across the parking lot and landed in a tree. A few moments later two more flew above me. They were screeching, not really sure how you describe the noise they make, but they were making a lot of it. One of them landed on the very top of a pine. The top couple feet of the tree was dead so it provided the perfect framing for the bird. It was the first time I've seed bald eagles in the wild. To have them fly right above me and the perch in a tree not far away was amazing. I just stood in the parking lot and watched the one for awhile. It really made my month! What a fantastic bird! |
